Goat of the Month: Eleanor

Eleanor began her life as a much loved pet, and then was sold to a young woman for 4H when her owner lost her home in the flood. The new owner discovered that Eleanor had some lumps. After receiving advice from her vet, she listed Eleanor for sale on Facebook for slaughter. I immediately contacted the owner and begged her, over a series of weeks, to save Eleanor and allow rescue to treat her.

The woman agreed, and met me with a skinny Eleanor, with an infected surgical site at a gas station near Lincoln. She wanted her life to be saved.

We provided Eleanor with veterinary care, directed by our team at Adams animal care. It turned out Eleanor did not have the disease that causes abscesses in goats. Her infection was treated, and with proper forage, hay and feed she has regained her weight.

She has become a foster mom, gladly parenting all of the younger goats we take in,

We were able to locate her original owner, who although she no longer has her farm, was thrilled to know Ellie is safe with us. Tina has done fundraising for the rescue in gratitude.

Ellie will stay with us permanently in sanctuary status. If you would like to sponsor her, please click the donation link below.
